Crazy Taxi reboot will be a AAA game from SEGA
The Crazy Taxi reboot, unlike the old games, is expected to be a AAA title
Sega revealed at The Game Awards 2023 that it would revive some classic franchises with a rather mysterious announcement. Since then, several rumors have surfaced, and those who think Crazy taxi might just be another ordinary game could be in for a surprise.
In an interview with the Japan Times during a visit to the Sapporo Studio, an interesting revelation was made. Takaya Segawa, a senior executive at Sega, first commented that the studio was responsible for games such as Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis and Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage in collaboration with the company’s headquarters in Tokyo and the other locations worldwide.

“We are also participating in the development of triple-A titles, including Crazy Taxi,” he said. “At present, we don’t have any titles developed independently by the studio, but we intend to do so on the future.”
This statement may suggest that Crazy Taxi is being treated as a AAA title, but it also leaves open the possibility of more unannounced games being in development. Either way, Sega fans have good reasons to celebrate.
Looking back in time, it’s worth remembering that Crazy Taxi started as an arcade game, originally released in 1999. Despite Sega’s strong presence in arcades, the game truly gained prominence when it was released for the Dreamcast in the same year.
Even though it was a standout title for Sega, the game wasn’t exactly considered a AAA title because it was a port of an arcade game and due to its casual with short-duration gameplay sessions lasting just a few minutes.

Even so, the game was hugely successful among players, spawned several sequels, and received ports to other platformswhen Sega exited the video game hardware market.
