E3 is officially "dead"
More than 2 decades of life
The Eletronic Entertainment Expo, better known as E3, is officially dead. For over two decades, it was the largest event within the video game industry, where various developers took advantage of the E3 stage lights to promote ongoing projects and also make significant announcments.
Regarding the reasons leading to this closure, new competitors, disengagement of partners, changes in consumer habits, and also disruption caused by the pandemic are cited.
It’s worth noting that in 2018, Playstation’s decision to leave E3 set off a domino effect, with other suppliers and companies deciding to withdraw from the event. Just over a year later, former E3 collaborator and journalist Geoff Keighley announced that he had stopped assisting ESA with the program and, since then, has successfully organized his own events such as the Summer Game Fest or The Game Awards.
