PS5 hits 50 million sales mark
Sony revealed that the console reached the new milestone
Sony announced on this Wednesday (20), that the PS5 has surpassed the mark of 50 million units sold globally. The milestone was reached on December 9, 2023, just over three years after the console’s launch in 2020.
The PS4 would have achieved this record a week before its successor, in about 160 weeks, while the current system took 161 weeks to reach the mentioned milestone. However, there was a pandemic along the device’s journey, wich certainly affected the balance.

We’re grateful for all of our players who have joined the PS5 journey so far, and we’re thrilled that this is the first holiday season since lauch that we have a full supply of PS5 consoles - so anyone who wants to get one can get one.” said outgoing SIE CEO Jim Ryan.
The number represents a 3-to-1 advantage over Xbox Series X|S, according to data gathered by the consulting firm Ampere Analysis.
