The Quarry was supposed to be Until Dawn 2
Information from former employees reveals that the sequel to Until Dawn was part of the plans
With the remaster of Until Dawn announced and being developed by Ballistic Moon, players still wonder today why a sequel was never released by Supermassive Games.
According to information from Time Extension website, a sequel to the game was indeed considered, to the extent that Sony funded the prototype of the project. However, Supermassive decided to take the idea to other publishers, wich ended up souring the relationship with PlayStation.
In the end, the game turned into what we now know as The Quarry, released in 2022 and received numerous praises, including comparisons to Until Dawn.

According to information from former employees, The Dark Pictures Anthology games were affected by poor management and a lack of resources/time, especially concerning limited growth opportunities, where junior designers were tasked with responsibilities beyond their roles.
Supermassive further soured its relationship with Sony after releasing the Dark Pictures franchise to multiple platforms. The project ended up being funded by Google, wich was later acquired by 2K, responsible for publishing.
