Subnautica 2 will be developed in Unreal 5 and will be a multiplayer sequel

According to Krafton, Subnautica 2 is expected to adopt Unreal 5 and feature stunning graphics, but it will have a service-based game model

Recently, Krafton revealed more details about what fans can expect from Subnautica 2, the sequel to the acclaimed survival and resource-collecting game with a maritime theme.

According to a fiscal report from Krafton (publisher of PUBG, Dark and Darker, and more), the new title will be a true “multiplayer sequel” offering cooperative gameplay and high-quality graphics, as well as a “high replay factor” service-based game model.

No doubt, most of the information disclosed by the company has been quite exciting: after all, Subnautica is an excellent survival game, but until now, it fell short as a single-player experience and required mods to have an online experience with friends. With Subnautica 2, that is set to change, as it will be entirely multiplayer.

The visuals should be another intriguing factor, considering the first title dates back to 2018 and was made in Unity, yet it still showcases moments of beauty. In the sequel, the team will migrate to Unreal Engine 5, one of the most robust third-party graphic engines available today.

What makes fans somewhat hesitant is the new “service-based game” model that Krafton plans for Subnautica 2. After all, this label has gained a negative side in recent years, but perhaps it might be beneficial in this case, as survival games benefit from regularly updated content.

If the plans unfold as expected, Subnautica 2 is scheduled to arrive in the first half os 2025.
